2006 will be remembered as the year that WBC MUAYTHAI champions of the world set new benchmark for Muaythai on the global stage.

In what has been a memorable year of achievement the WBC established a credible rating and rankings system in 19 divisions with an organizational structure that ensures that the champions who hold the famous WBC green belt are the world’s best.

Here’s the list of the WBC MUAYTHAI world champions.

Kaew Fairtex

Keow Fairtex won the super featherweight world title in Cancun.Australia’s Nathan “Carnage” Corbet won the Cruiserweight world title by KO on the Australian Gold Coast

Yodsaenklai Fairtex

Thailand’s Super Welterweight champion Yodsaenklai out pointed the Aussie legend John Wayne Parr on points and then defended his title in Germany against Mark Vogel - winning by TKO in the first round.

Steve Wakeling

England’s Steve Wakeling won the Middleweight title from JWP who fought for and lost narrowly his second WBC world title. In the same weight division Rajadamnern champion Lamsongkran Chuwantana won the Interim World Title against Alan Ofeyo in Kyrgyzstan. Wakeling will fight Lamsongkram to unify the title in London on 25 February.

Danthai Singhmanutsak

Thailand champion Danthai Singhmanutsak beat Britain’s Kieran Keddle by points at Reading in the UK to take the World Super Lightweight title. Another top English contender, Dale White impressed with a KO knee strike victory against Alexei Bliznev of the Belarus in Reading and then won a second Bantamweight International title in Denmark to give him top billing for a world title.

Nopadet Chuwattana beat Denmark warrior Leroy Beck in a thriller at the Arthus port city, on the same day in Copenhagen Basham Chahrour won the Light Heavyweight world title.
